New Look at ‘The Unseen’ Become Visible

Published

Spotlight Pictures has acquired worldwide sales rights, excluding Canada, for the gritty sci-fi horror, The Unseen (read our review).

Written and directed by Geoff Redknap, who makes his feature directorial debut. Redknap is best known for his special makeup effects work on Deadpool, The Cabin in the Woods, The X-Files, and Star Trek Beyond. The Unseen premiered to tremendous reviews in this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival and stars Aden Young, Camille Sullivan, and Julia Sarah Stone.

Patrick shared his review out of Fantasia:

‘The Unseen’ is a miraculously solid blend of thriller, horror, and family drama that unravels in a tangible small town setting. It’s the type of debut film that makes you all tingly inside, knowing that Redknap has a lot more in store as a filmmaker. After years in the makeup/effects department, he’s taken his skills and crafted something truly captivating. ‘The Unseen’ demands to be, uh, seen.

In a modern retelling of the classic The Invisible Man, The Unseen is the story of Bob (Aden Young), a struggling mill worker, who mysteriously abandoned his family and isolated himself in a small northern town. He returns for one last chance to reconnect with his troubled daughter Eva (Julia Sarah Stone), but when Eva goes missing, Bob will risk everything to find her including exposing the secret that he is becoming invisible.

The Unseen is produced by Katie Weekley for Goonworks Films with the participation of Telefilm Canada. The film will have its Los Angeles premiere at Screamfest at 9:30pm on Tuesday, October 25th.

Here’s a new look with the old sales trailer.

Dead Mail SXSW Dead Mail interview

One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.

Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

In the SXSW 2024 horror film…

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.

“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”

Sterling Macer, Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman star in Dead Mail. Preview the film with an exclusive image gallery below.
