Dark Sky Releasing Morbid Tale of ‘Scherzo Diabolico’

Published

A desperate man is pushed to take an extreme action to alter his life, but it may turn out to be the worst decision he’s ever made. The shocking Scherzo Diabolico, the new film from genre maestro Adrián García Bogliano, will be available on VOD and Digital HD platforms on May 3, 2016.

With Scherzo Diabolico, Adrián García Bogliano (Here Comes the Devil, Late Phases, The ABCs of Death, Penumbra) is said to have created a tale of dread concerning a seemingly mild-mannered man who enacts a disturbing plan for vengeance.

Aram (Francisco Barreiro; We Are What We Are, Here Comes the Devil) is a low-paid accountant living an unbearably dull existence. With a nagging wife who berates him for not being assertive enough, he quietly suffers while awaiting a long-deserved promotion. But there’s more to Aram than his quiet demeanor lets on: He has been secretly devising a scheme to finally get what he feels he is owed.

One day he asserts his power menacingly when he kidnaps a schoolgirl (Daniela Solo Vell) and keeps her tied up in an abandoned warehouse. But what seems like the perfect plan soon unravels into his worst nightmare, and his carefully constructed scheme comes crashing down piece by bloody piece.

In this twisted thriller, Bogliano uses his startling visionary style to subvert genre conventions while constantly keeping us guessing as to what will happen next in what becomes a gritty game of cat and mouse.

Scherzo Diabolico was an Official Selection at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival and other major events. Our very own Patrick Cooper called it “a morbid tale of deception and ambition that plays out like classical tragedy.”

Levicitus Digital release

After releasing in theaters last month, NEON announced today that horror romance Leviticus will arrive on digital platforms to rent or own beginning July 28, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on September 8, 2026.

Leviticus marks the feature debut by writer/director Adrian Chiarella.

Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen play star-crossed teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other.

Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak), Jeremy BlewittEwen Leslie (The Nightingale), and Davida McKenzie (Silent Night) round out the cast of horror movie Leviticus.

Leviticus is a strong debut with an incisive voice at the helm,” I wrote in my review out of Sundance. “We care deeply about Naim and Ryan’s survival, making Leviticus a tense, atmospheric, and claustrophobic vision of young love in a hateful world.”

Leviticus is the perfect title for writer-director Adrian Chiarella‘s powerful feature debut,” Meagan’s review explains, “a searing anthem against the corrosive nature of fear and bigotry.”

The physical media release comes packed with exclusive bonus features, the home entertainment release includes a feature commentary with Adrian Chiarella, interviews with Chiarella, Stacy Clausen, and Joe Bird, an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, and the official trailer.

Look for Leviticus on Digital next week, and check out the box art for September’s Blu-ray release this September.
