‘Oculus’ Director’s ‘Before I Wake’ Opening Internationally This Month
Fighting through bankruptcy woes, Relativity announced new release dates for The Disappointments Room, starring Underworld‘s Kate Beckinsale as a woman who moves into a new house with her 5-year-old son only to discover a secret room within the attic where unimaginable horrors are accidentally unlocked, and Before I Wake, a nightmarish child-horror film starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Dash Mihok, Annabeth Gish and Jacob Tremblay.
The Disappointments Room, from I Am Number Four and Eagle Eye helmer D.J. Caruso, was slated for release on March 25th. That day came and went without a peep.
Now, Relativity is supposed to be releasing Before I Wake, from Oculus and Hush director Mike Flanagan, on April 8th. There’s been no news, no fresh trailers or posters – zilch. I think it’s safe to say it’s not releasing. We put in word with a Relativity rep and hope to hear something back who tells us: “The date is moving, but not yet confirmed where it will land.”
In the meantime, we’ve learned an international rollout is still in the cards, with Before I Wake opening in places like Thailand (April 21st) as early as next week.
In it, “Jessie and Mark, recovering from the death of their young son Sean, decide to take in 8-year-old Cody as a foster child. Cody seems sweet, loving and bright in every way, except that he is afraid to sleep. They soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps. In Jessie’s grief, she tries to use Cody’s supernatural abilities to reconnect with her dead son. Soon she discovers that Cody’s nightmares manifest as well, as they experience both the intense wonder – and intense terror – that only a child’s imagination could conjure. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark must uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.“

‘Hold the Fort’ Trailer Pits New Homeowners Against an Onslaught of Monsters
Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.
Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.
In the film, “Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.“
Watch the new trailer below, which introduces one wild HOA gathering during an equinox. Things get bloody fast.
Chris Mayers (Adult Swim Yule Log), Haley Leary (“The Walking Dead”), Levi Burdick, and Julian Smith star.
William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).
Ahead of the release, Bagley said, “My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.“
Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.
I wrote in my review, “It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.”
