Another Soul Might Be Joining the ‘Flatliners’ Remake

Published

on

Now that she’s out of “The Vampire Diaries”, Nina Dobrev is focusing her career on the big screen with films like XXX: The Return of Xander Cage and Crash Pad. However, it’s her leap into the world of genre films that interests us as it’s been confirmed that the star is in talks to join Sony’s reboot of Flatliners, the 1990 sci-fi supernatural thriller that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, and Kevin Bacon.

If she lands the role, Dobrev would be taking on the character of Marlo, an overachiever who aims to be at the top of her class, according to Deadline. However, it’s still uncertain if she’s going to commit to the production.

The remake is being directed by Niels Arden-Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and is produced by Michael Douglas and Laurence mark off a script by Ben Ripley. Ellen Page and Diego Luna are already confirmed for the film.

In Flatliners:

A Chicago medical student persuades his fellow pupils to help him end his life, and then resuscitate him in the nick of time. His colleagues also journey into the unknown, looking for meaning in their own lives. As the experiments become more perilous, each is forced to contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing on the other side.

After a massively successful box office run that scared up $364 million (and counting) at the worldwide box office, Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is now available on Digital at home.

You can either digitally rent or digitally purchase the A24 horror film on outlets including Amazon Prime, and it’ll cost you $19.99 for the rental and $24.99 for the purchase.

As for the extended 16-minutes of footage that were included with the recent theatrical event Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, Parsons promises it’s coming online.

The extra footage is expected to hit the Kane Pixels YouTube channel this week.

The sixteen minutes of “Everything Must Go” footage essentially plays out like a new episode of Kane Parsons’ Backrooms YouTube series. You can read all about it right here.

No word yet on a physical release for Backrooms. Stay tuned.

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in Backrooms as the owner of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire, who discovers a strange doorway in the basement of the furniture showroom. He sets out to explore the mysterious, liminal space, walking headfirst into a creepypasta nightmare.

Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

Meagan wrote in her review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.
