Last year saw R.L. Stine’s book series Goosebumps hit the big screen, a film which our own Kalyn Corrigan called, “…a sweet, nostalgia-filled film for youths and parents alike…” The film, which starred Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush, drew in nearly $160 million in global box office, so a sequel was pretty much a guarantee. And today, that sequel comes much closer to reality as THR is reporting that both director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke are closing deals with Sony to return to the property. The site also reports that Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz are going to return as producers.
There isn’t any confirmation on any of the original cast reprising their roles, so we’ll have to wait and see. And considering that this news comes just half a year since the movie hit theaters, I’m sure it will be a little bit before anything in terms of production is announced.
R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps” series began in 1992 and has since seen over 180 titles bear its name. At its peak, the series was selling over 4 million copies per month. Stine is hailed as the king of young adult horror fiction.
