Genre ‘Thoroughbred’ Get Mixed in With Murder

June Pictures and B Story are saddling up for a May start on Thoroughbred, a psychological thriller that marks the directorial debut of playwright-screenwriter Cory Finley, Deadline writes.

“Bates Motel,” The Quiet Ones and Ouija‘s Olivia Cooke stars with Anya Taylor-Joy, coming off the success of The Witch, and Green Room‘s (now in theaters) Anton Yelchin.

Financed by June Pictures, “The film focuses on a volatile friendship between two suburban teenage girls who discover that a murder might solve both of their problems.

June’s Alex Saks and Andrew Duncan are producing with B Story’s Kevin J. Walsh, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. B Story’s Ryan Stowell will executive produce. The picture will shoot on the East Coast.

Simu Liu Joins Sci-Fi Survival Thriller ‘Homewrecker’ From ‘Under Paris’ Director

Avengers: Doomsday and Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai actor Simu Liu is joining Allison Williams (M3GAN) and Michelle Randolph (Scream 7) on the sci-fi survival thriller HomewreckerDeadline reports today.

Production is set to begin next month in Paris, France.

In Homewrecker, “During a heart-breaking domestic revelation, three star-crossed Americans are suddenly forced to work together to survive a terrifying unexplained global event that threatens to destroy life as they know it.”

Xavier Gens (Under ParisFrontier(s)) will direct from a script by Elisa Bell (Vegas Vacation) and Travis Gordon, which has been likened in spirit to 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Producers include Denise Di Novi, Margaret French Isaac, & Oliver Scherick for Di Novo Pictures (Practical Magic) and John Zois & Warren Goz for Parallel 42 Entertainment.

Williams will executive produce alongside Michael Rothstein & Samuel Hall for North.Five.Six, which is launching sales at next week’s Cannes film market. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-rep domestic rights.
