Created as part of a Something Awful forum contest, Slender Man has become almost (and I stress almost) as iconic as Freddy, Jason or even Michael. There’s been video game adaptations, documentaries (the latest is HBO’s Beware the Slenderman), and indie features, not to mention rumors of Slender Man invading next season’s “American Horror Story” (although this has already been debunked).
Sony Screen Gems is taking a stab at the character as they are developing a studio film based off the internet meme, reports Comicbook, who says a fall shoot date is targeted from a screenplay by David Birke (Gacy, 13 sins).
The Slender Man character has drawn similarities to entities such as “The Gentelemen” on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and “The Silence” on Doctor Who.
Te site also notes that Screen Gems has an extensive horror history, with films like The Mothman Prophecies, Boogeyman, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hostel, and action-horror films like the Resident Evil franchise and Underworld franchise under their belts.
Since there’s not much to go on here, I thought it would be fun to share this incredibly creepy “Slender Man police call,” in which a child is seeing the entity outside of their window.
