Holy Sh*t, ‘USS Indianapolis’ Got Made, and it Stars Nicolas Cage! (Trailer)

Published

I’ve been dying for Hollywood to finally get USS Indianapolis into production. It’s been in development hell for years, and even had some really hot directors attached.

It’s more of a thriller, but it involves sharks eating people, and is based on an honest-to-God true story.

Somehow, completely off my radar, this movie got made – and it stars mother fuckin’ Nicolas Cage.

Hannibal Classics and Patriot Pictures are behind the World War II disaster movie that’s full title is USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage.

Cage stars as Capt. Charles Butler McVay, whose ship was torpedoed in the South Pacific in July of 1945, after delivering parts for the first atomic bombs. “President Truman has selected you to lead a highly classified mission,” Cage is told.

Because the ship was without an escort, the Indianapolis was not reported missing until four days later. Of 1,197 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship, while the rest faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning and shark attacks as they waited for assistance. Only 317 sailors survived, and McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later.

The trailer, via Variety, shows several shark attacks during those five days and the subsequent court martial.

Mario Van Peebles directed from a script by Cam Cannon and Hannibal Classics principal Richard Rionda Del Castro.

The next installment in the Jurassic World franchise continues to build its main cast, with THR reporting tonight that Rupert Friend (Asteroid City) is the latest actor to sign on.

He’ll join the previously announced Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) in the franchise’s next film.

Gareth Edwards (2014’s GodzillaThe Creator) will be directing the new installment, with original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returning to write the screenplay.

Jurassic World returns to theaters on July 2, 2025. Stay tuned for more.

The new movie is expected to usher in a brand new Jurassic Era with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return. Don’t expect the original trilogy’s Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, either. The new Jurassic World, from what we gather, plans to take the franchise in a new direction, with plot details under wraps.

The next Jurassic World film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North.

Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the Studio.

This news comes in the wake of Jurassic WorldJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion, a trilogy of sequels to the original classic that concluded in 2022. The last entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, brought in a billion dollars at the global box-office, all but ensuring Universal would want to continue this franchise.

The franchise will also return to the small screen with “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” this year, an animated series from Netflix set in the world of “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.”
