Avoid the Temptation to Watch ‘The Wailing’ Trailer
Ahead of its premiere this month at the Cannes Film Festival, Na Hong-jin’s The Wailing, his follow-up to The Chaser and The Yellow Sea, has been picked up for North American distribution by Well Go USA for release on May 27th.
In The Wailing (Goksung), “The arrival of a mysterious stranger (Chun Woo-hee) in an otherwise quiet village coincides with a rash of vicious murders, causing panic and suspicion amongst the villagers. When the daughter of investigating officer Jong-Goo (Kwak Do-won) falls under the same savage spell, he calls for a shaman (Hwang Jung-min) to assist in finding the culprit.”
The trailer has just landed online and apparently doesn’t even scratch the surface of how fucking crazy this Korean thriller is.

‘The American Winner’: Flula Borg to Star in Horror Satire About a Tech Billionaire with a Monstrous Secret
Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad) and Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur (Primate, CODA) have been set to star in satirical horror movie The American Winner, which is currently in production per Deadline.
The American Winner will mark the feature debut of Iranian writer/director Farbod Ardebili.
Borg stars as “a megalomaniacal tech billionaire who manipulates markets from his residence while protecting the bizarre ‘being’ he’s accidentally impregnated and must feed to keep his progeny alive. The entire film takes place in the palatial bathroom of the Silicon Valley guru.”
The bit about Borg’s character impregnating a mysterious “being” in that logline certainly has our interest.
Producer Daniel Brandt’s comments to Deadline also intrigue: “When we met Flula we knew he was the perfect person to bring our tech-centric Patrick Bateman to life. We view this one as a five-minutes-into-the-future tech world update of American Psycho infused with a The Thing-style monster that is really going to freak people out. The American Winner is a wild blend of horror and satire that pulls no punches and is chock full of relevant commentary that we feel will resonate with audiences today.”
Ashby Gentry (Netflix’s My Life with the Walter Boys), Misha Osherovich (Freaky), Toks Olagundoye (Frasier), Lorena Gonzalez and Shavvon Lin also star.
The film was produced by brothers Dane and Cole Eckerle on behalf of their label Bad Grey alongside Daniel Brandt and Mark Finley of Plain Text.
John Henry Hinkel is also a producer on the film. Exec producers include Tom Spriggs and Atil Singh of Principal Entertainment, Lorena E. Gonzalez, Erin O’Connor and Maurice Black of Story Incubator, Katherine Kendall, Shavvon Lin and Jimmy Cai.

Troy Kotsur as “Adam” and Gia Hunter as “Erin” in Primate from Paramount Pictures.
