Why are sharks the hot thing these days? Okay, let me correct myself because I’m actually really looking forward to The Shallows: Why are sharks that aren’t in water the hot thing these days? Just look at the Sharknado franchise, Ghost Shark, Shark Exorcist, etc, etc, etc…
If you thought the train of C-level shark “horror” films was coming to a close, you’re dead wrong as I’d like to introduce you to the latest schlock we can “look forward to”: Sky Sharks.
Just read this nonsense:
Deep in the ice of the Antarctic, a team of geologists uncover an old Nazi laboratory, still intact, where dark experiments had occurred. Unwittingly the geologists unleash upon the world a top-secret experiment the Germans had been working on – modified sharks that are able to fly, whose riders are genetically mutated, undead super-humans. The only thing that can stop them, and possibly save the world, is a military task force called “Dead Flesh Four“ – assembled from reanimated U.S. soldiers who fell in Vietnam.
Honestly, I think the filmmakers hopped on the shark bandwagon and then figured why not toss zombie Nazis into the mix. Not even Tony Todd, who for some reason is in the movie, is enough for me to want to watch this.
Sorry all. You know that I very rarely get so negative and heated but this is just frustrating. It’s movies like these that continually make people think less of horror. Additionally, because they’re cheap and so ridiculous, production companies can pump them out like clockwork, which means non-horror people see a majority of junk and, therefore, gloss over the diamonds in the rough, so to speak. I just hate seeing horror reduced to such nonsense when there is so much it has to offer.
