This is already a phenomenal year for horror, and you guys don’t even know it yet.
The Witch was just a launching point with some seriously good movies arriving later this year. Yes, I’ve already seen Adam Wingard’s The Woods, and it’s as good as I said. Before I saw that, I was sure that Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe was going to top my year-end list.
Here’s what Trace said in his review, which he also says “is like Hitchcock on crack.”
‘Don’t Breathe’ may not qualify as an actual horror movie, but Lang imbues the film with plenty of horror, and his casting pays off in spades.
He’s right. Sony Screen Gems and Ghost House Pictures’ Don’t Breathe, which reteams Jane Levy with Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez, is one of the most suspenseful films in recent memory.
Levy stars as one of three teens who break into a blind man’s home thinking they’ll get away with the perfect crime. Dylan Minnette (Prisoners, Goosebumps, Let Me In) and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) play the other thieves.
But the real star of the film, opening August 26th, is Avatar‘s Stephen Lang, who plays the vicious and brutal super-soldier blind man.
For those who are dying to see something before the end of summer release, the official trailer has plenty to offer, although it’s boasting some massive spoilers. My recommendation? Avoid it. Go in blind (see what I did there?).

“Three teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies have set their sights on one last payout that will get them out of crime forever. But as soon as they break into his home, the tables are turned and they find themselves trapped and fighting for survival against a psychopath with secrets of his own.”
Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues wrote the script for the project, which is produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert for Ghost House Pictures. J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake and Erin Westerman executive produce.
