Jason Momoa Departs Justin Lin’s ‘Helldivers’ Video Game Adaptation
Fast X director Justin Lin’s adaptation of Helldivers is slated for release next year, but its star, Jason Momoa, has exited the project, Deadline reports today.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have set a November 10, 2027 release date for the sci-fi action film based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ video game franchise.
While it’s unclear yet why Momoa is departing from the project, it’s still very much alive as the search for a new star is underway. The actor’s upcoming work slate is very busy, with the releases of Supergirl, Street Fighter, and Dune: Part Three right around the corner.
Of course, plot details remain under wraps still for the feature adaptation, but the 2015 cooperative top-down shooter game sees players, as part of the elite unit called the Helldivers, working together to protect Super-Earth and defeat the enemies of mankind in an intense intergalactic war.
Helldivers 2 sold more than 12 million units within the first four months of its launch in 2024. In the cooperative third-person shooter, elite Helldivers wreak havoc on an alien scourge threatening the safety of Super-Earth.
Hutch Parker is producing the film with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions previously worked together on Uncharted, “The Last of Us,” and “Twisted Metal.”
