Japan’s Shin Godzilla, which will be released in the United States under the title Godzilla: Resurgence has drawn a lot of intrigue when it comes to his look and design. While there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the creature we’re looking at is the King of Monsters, there are still some who are surprised by his appearance, which is far more fierce and vicious than pretty much anything we’ve seen in the past.
When the trailer for the film, which you can watch below, debuted, I was taken aback by the tail, which I said appeared to be, “…the longest tail the creature has ever adorned.” Additionally, I commented that, “…Godzilla looks wrecked. Like, he’s seriously damaged and scarred, as though he’s been through some devastating fights and is still recovering. But when they show his clawed hands, it’s a rather terrifying sight to behold.”
Now, a piece of concept art from the upcoming book “The Art of Shin Godzilla Resurgence“, which is by Grondworks, has been revealed, which showcases the work of Mahiro Maeda.
Maeda is known as one of Japan’s most renowned animators. He worked on many of Studio Ghibli’s films as well as Kill Bill vol. 1 and Animatrix.
The book, which comes out in August, can be pre-ordered via Hobblylink Japan, but be warned that it will set you back over $90!
Godzilla: Resurgence, the 29th entry in the franchise, will be hitting theaters in Japan on July 29th. It is co-directed by Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan). Anno has written the script.
