‘JeruZalem 2’ Confirmed: Will Include “Virtual Reality Component”

Published

on

Epic Pictures has announced today that they are moving forward with JeruZalem 2, the sequel to the found-footage film that released earlier this year. The film will be written and directed once again by the Paz Brothers, Doron and Yoav. No cast or plot details have been released.

With ‘JeruZalem’, The Paz Brothers created a truly original and terrifying horror film that thrilled audiences all over the world. We were so happy that viewers loved the film as much as we did so we quickly decided to team up with Doron and Yoav again for a sequel,” commented Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald while co-founder Shaked Berenson adds, “The sequel will include an extensive virtual reality component to bring the viewers’ experience to the next step and immerse themselves in the action and the city of Jerusalem.

This makes a lot of sense because JeruZalem did set itself apart by “obtaining footage” using Google Glass instead of a handheld camera. As a result, we see what the main character Sarah sees. If the sequel goes the same route, that’s a perfect way to put us in the main character’s shoes and see things from their perspective.

The Paz Brothers excitedly proclaim, “The team at Epic Pictures helped us realize our dream of scaring the shit out of people all over the world! We’re thrilled to partner them again for JeruZalem 2 – this time with a virtual reality element that opens up a whole new world of creative opportunities for us as filmmakers.

‘JeruZalem’ follows Rachel (Yael Grobglas), and her friend Sarah (Danielle Jadelyn), two American girls on vacation in Jerusalem. The two follow Kevin (Yon Tumarkin), a mysterious and handsome anthropology student, into the heart of the Old City. The party is cut short when a biblical prophecy comes to pass on the night of Yom Kippur and Jerusalem’s gate to hell is opened, releasing an epic apocalypse. Trapped between the ancient walls of the holy city, the trio must survive long enough to find a way out as the fury of hell is unleashed upon them.

I wasn’t a big fan of the first film (read my review) but I recognize that there is a lot of room to grow and create something incredibly solid and exciting. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Two-time BAFTA winning filmmaker Joe Wright (Hanna, “Black Mirror“) is set to direct the feature adaptation of post-apocalyptic thriller novel, Juice, Deadline reports today.

Emmy winner Abi Morgan (Shame, “Eric”) will adapt Tim Winton‘s novel for Working Title Films.

In Juice, “A young husband and father is recruited into a top-secret resistance organization, to join the ranks of militia men tasked with targeting the isolated and wealthy culprits responsible for this global catastrophe.  When a mission goes wrong, he finds himself on the run, having to fight to the end to survive in this hostile world.”

It’s set in a world ravaged by climate-change disaster.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tim Winton has entrusted us with his extraordinary epic,” Wright told Deadline. “The story is both a thrilling modern family saga and an urgent call to action. I cannot wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen.”

Winton added, “I’m pleased to know a filmmaker of Joe Wright’s calibre has chosen to adapt Juice for the screen. His capacity to portray the turmoil and the turning points of nations and peoples as well as private individuals distinguishes his work as a director and I’m confident that Juice is in good hands.”

Juice was initially published in October 2024 and longlisted for The Climate Fiction Prize 2026.
