Miranda Otto (The Two Towers, Return of the King, What Lies Beneath) has joined New Line’s Annabelle 2, the next sequel in The Conjuring spinoff universe, according to THR. David Sandberg (Lights Out) will be directing based on a script from Gary Dauberman with James Wan and Peter Safran producing.

According to the site, the film “…tells of a dollmaker and his wife who, 20 years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Soon, however, the nun and the girls become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.”
Otto is slated to play the wife of the dollmaker. She is described as “a disfigured recluse“, although no other backstory has been given.
The sequel shoots this July.
