Sad news is coming from the BBC as it’s being reported that Robin Hardy has passed away at the age of 86, according to a family friend.
Hardy only directed three movies during his career but one of them was The Wicker Man, which starred Christopher Lee. Hailed as one of the greatest British horror films of all time, the movie told of a devout police sergeant who travels to an island inhabited by pagans in search of a missing girl. The more he stays, the more the mysteries of the island begin to weigh upon him. A remake that starred Nicolas Cage was released in 2006.
A sequel of sorts, The Wicker Tree, was released in 2011 and a third film has apparently been in development, although not much has been heard about that film for a while. Hardy’s other film was the 1986 thriller The Fantasist, which starred Timothy Bottoms and John Kavanagh.
We send out condolences to the family of Mr. Hardy and we thank him for creating a timeless classic that is still being appreciated to this day.
