Back in May we told you about a new “spin” on the devil music subgenre that’s once again socially relevant.
Adrian Garcia Bogliano, who is behind the werewolf movie Late Phases, has wrapped production [EW] on Black Circle(Svart Cirkel), a Swedish-language supernatural thriller that “turns on two sisters whose lives change dramatically after going through hypnosis using a mysterious vinyl album recorded in the 1970s.”
Swedish icon Christina Lindberg, Quentin Tarantino’s inspiration for Kill Bill, through her role in 1973 Swedish cult classic thriller They Call Her One-Eye (pictured above), stars, Variety had reported. Black Circle‘s cast also features award-winning Swedish actors such as Mathilda Paradeiser (She Monkeys), Hanna and Erica Midfjäll (I Miss You), Madeleine Trollvik (Johan Falk) and singer Johan Palm.
”It was a blast to shoot this film with an amazing cast of performers from the most different backgrounds and coming with exciting approaches to the material,” said Bogliano in a statement to EW. “It was exciting to have the chance to do something that takes place in a country with such a unique culture and an overwhelming film history.”

The film is backed by Joshua Sobel’s L.A.-based F as well as Sweden’s Klubb Super 8 and Solid Ent., Mexico’s Salto de Fe Films, Tenebrae Enterprises from Finland and the U.K.’s Mondo Macabro.
Marking their first genre outing, Rickard Gramfors and his partner Bo Gramfors are producing Black Circle for Sweden’s Klubb Super 8, in association with Andrea Quiroz Hernandez, producer of Bogliano’s latest, Scherzo Diabolico, working out of her Mexican company Salto de Fe Films.
In the latest deal, struck at Cannes, Mikko Aromaa’s Finnish production company Tenebrae Enterprises has boarded the project as a co-producer.
A Field in England‘s executive producer Pete Tombs and The Greasy Strangler‘s producer Andy Starke will co-produce at U.K.’s Mondo Macabro. The Swedish genre pic producer Solid Entertainment (Wake Wood, Stitches) is also joining the production.
That multilateral co-pro backing is a reflection of the cache of the Spanish-born but formerly Argentina-based Garcia Bogliano, now working out of Mexico, who was a 2012 Austin Fantastic Fest five-prize winner with the Spanish-language Here Comes the Devil.
