5 ‘Ghostbusters’ Clips Introduce Rowan, the Film’s Super Villain

Published

on

“SNL” vet Neil Casey is the main Ghostbusters villain, Rowan, described as a convicted murderer who turns into a ghost after his execution is hit by a supercharged electrical storm. This gives him the power to raise an army of other ghosts, which could be made up of famous villains throughout history.

Rowan highlights the first batch of clips from Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, which introduce the new ‘busters: Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy). While many of the clips are extended footage already shown in the trailers (Patty gets a hearse, Kevin makes terrible logos, and the ladies get ready for battle), the highlight is a second weapon test in which the quartet attempt to zap the film’s super villain, Rowan, only it fails miserably.

Additionally, Indiewire caught an interesting bit of news via Yahoo Movies UK that confirms a scene was actually added to the film so that it could address the backlash head on. In an early scene in the movie, the Ghostbusters upload a video to YouTube and read some of the nasty comments aloud…

“It was added [to the script],” Melissa McCarthy tells Yahoo Movies UK. “We did something on the day that slightly tweaked it.”

In theaters July 15, Feig has filmed cameos (in new roles) for many of the original Ghostbusters cast, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and even Sigourney Weaver.

Andy Garcia, Michael Kenneth Williams, Matt Walsh and Pat Kiernan also star in Ghostbusters.

At one point known as ShiverTim Miller‘s (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) next movie doesn’t yet have a title, but star Keanu Reeves offers a very intriguing tease this week.

Chatting with Collider, Reeves explains what drew him to the mysterious upcoming project from director Tim Miller. He tells the outlet, “Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day.”

That lines up with early plot details that surfaced earlier this year, with the film said to center on a “smuggler in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea.”

That synopsis continued, “Surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries, and bloodthirsty sharks, the man finds himself in a time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.”

Callie Cooke (“The Stranger”), Stefan Kapičić (Deadpool), Steven Waddington (Sleepy Hollow), Nicholas Duvernay (“The White Lotus”), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), Anastasia Safonov, and Bobby Holland Hanton (Thor: Love and Thunder) also star.

Ian Shorr (SplinterInfinite) penned the screenplay for the sci-fi thriller, which had previously been described as having shades of Edge of Tomorrow and The Shallows.

Stay tuned for more on the untitled Warner Bros. project.
