‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ Star Joins Giant Shark Film ‘Meg’
“Orange is the New Black” and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter star Ruby Rose is in negotiations to join the giant shark film Meg, according to Variety. She will be starring alongside Jason Statham, Jessica McNamee, and Fan Bingbing.
National Treasure helmer Jon Turtletaub will direct the film, set for sail on March 2, 2018.
The movie is centered on an international underwater observation program, led by Chinese scientists, which comes under attack by an unknown danger. With its deep-sea submersible disabled and trapped at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, they need rescue. Statham will portray a former naval captain and expert deep-sea diver, who’s recruited for a likely suicide mission — even though he faced the predator years before and was forced him to abort his mission and abandon half his crew.
The story is based on Steve Alten’s novel “MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror,” published in 1997. The title is derived from the ancient Megalodon species that has survived while being trapped in the Mariana Trench due to a barrier of cold water.
The film will be co-financed by Flagship Entertainment; Gravity Pictures, a division of China Media Capital (CMC); and Warner Bros. Gravity Pictures will distribute the film in China, with Warner Bros. handling the film throughout the rest of the world.
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson are producing. Executive producers are Wei Wayne Jiang, Barrie M. Osborne, Randy Greenberg and Gerald R. Molen.

Lauren LaVera and Rory Culkin Starring in Josh Stolberg Horror Movie ‘Red Wedding’
Josh Stolberg (the writer of Piranha 3D, Sorority Row, and Saw X) is directing horror movie Red Wedding, and Deadline reports that Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2 & 3) will star.
Lauren LaVera will star alongside Rory Culkin (Scream 4) in Red Wedding.
“The film follows a teenager and her stepmother who are kidnapped and taken to a remote location as part of a ransom plot, soon discovering their captors are the least of their worries when a deadly bride and groom arrive and begin picking them off one by one.”
The Gulfstream Pictures film has entered production in Alabama, Deadline notes.
Josh Stolberg directs and wrote the screenplay with Pete Goldfinger.
“Red Wedding is exactly the kind of bold, high-concept genre film we love to champion — smart, unpredictable, and unapologetically intense,” said Gulfstream Pictures. “Following our long relationship with Josh Stolberg as a writer, we’re excited to now work with him as a director. Along with the incredible pairing of Lauren LaVera and Rory Culkin, we’re thrilled to bring a fresh, elevated take on horror to audiences. It’s a wild ride with real character stakes.”
Lauren LaVera will also be starring in the upcoming survival thriller Man or Bear, and she’s expected to reprise the role of Sienna Shaw one more time in Damien Leone’s Terrifier 4.
