Now that Toho’s Godzilla: Resurgence has hit theaters in Japan and drawn some strong praise, I guess the studio has decided it’s time to see how the film was made, starting with a breakdown of the extensive visual effects required to bring the “King of the Monsters” to life. Below is a video that offers that exact information, showing how Tokyo was rebuilt digitally to allow for the behemoth to trudge through and wreck nearly everything.
“An unknown accident occurs in Tokyo Bay’s Aqua Line, which causes an emergency cabinet to assemble. All of the sudden, a giant creature immediately appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. This mysterious giant monster is named “Godzilla”.”
Co-directed by Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan) with a script by Anno, the cast includes Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, Rando Yaguchi, and Ren Osugi.
FUNimation is bringing the film overseas with a rumored late-2016 limited theatrical release date.
