Jason Clarke Starring in the Spierig Brothers’ ‘Winchester’!
CBS Films announced today that Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Zero Dark Thirty, Terminator Genisys) is joining Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen, Eye in the Sky) in the supernatural thriller Winchester, Bloody Disgusting learned today.
Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers, Undead) are directing the film based on their screenplay with Tom Vaughan.
The film follows the story of firearm heiress Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren), who was convinced that she was haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester repeating rifle. After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, she threw herself into the 24-hour a day, seven days a week construction of an enormous mansion designed to keep the evil spirits at bay. But when skeptical San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price (Jason Clarke) is dispatched to the estate to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all.
‘Winchester’ will take audiences inside the labyrinth like house that is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the world.
Produced by Blacklab Entertainment’s Tim McGahan and Imagination Design Works’ Brett Tomberlin.
Winchester is being financed by Bullitt Entertainment, Diamond Pictures and Blacklab Entertainment and has secured Screen Australia Production Investment, with assistance from Film Victoria’s Production Incentive Attraction Fund and Production Investment from Screen Queensland. Diamond Pictures is handling international sales. Bullitt’s Benedict Carver, Diamond’s Daniel Diamond and Tobin Armbrust are executive producing. Andy Trapani, Toni Lianos, Brian Gilbert, Marc Shipper and Simon Oakes will also serve as executive producers.
The Spierig brothers are also set to go into production on the next entry of Lionsgate’s SAW this fall, with now plans to begin filming Winchester in March 2017 on location in San Jose and in Australia.

‘Hold the Fort’ Trailer Pits New Homeowners Against an Onslaught of Monsters
Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.
Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.
In the film, “Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.“
Watch the new trailer below, which introduces one wild HOA gathering during an equinox. Things get bloody fast.
Chris Mayers (Adult Swim Yule Log), Haley Leary (“The Walking Dead”), Levi Burdick, and Julian Smith star.
William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).
Ahead of the release, Bagley said, “My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.“
Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.
I wrote in my review, “It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.”
