I think it’s fair to say that author Stephen King is perhaps one of the biggest influences on horror over the past 40 years. I think I can safely say that no horror director has as many movies in his or her repertoire as there are King-adapted films. Just the sequels to his properties make up nearly 20 films in the horror world, mainly thanks to Children of the Corn (a ninth film is in the works).
With dozens of books, nearly 200 short stories, and a handful of non-fiction books under his name, it’s impossible to be a horror fan without running into his work at some point or another. From Pennywise in It to Jack Torrance in The Shining to Annie Wilkes in Misery, his characters have terrified audiences from all walks of life.
