Giant Monster Movie ‘Colossal’ Acquired By Tim League and Tom Quinn!

Two important names in the genre world are behind the acquisition of the Anne Hathaway starrer Colossal (read our review), directed by Nacho Vigalondo (Extraterrestrial, VHS Viral, Timecrimes).

Sources tell THR a new company formed by Radius co-founder Tom Quinn and Alamo Drafthouse owner Tim League will distribute the film that made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Colossal executive producer Choi Pyung Ho has a relationship with Quinn dating back to 2013’s Snowpiercer, which Choi produced and was one of Radius’ biggest hits and became a cult classic on VOD.

Quinn and League are planning an ambitious release for Colossal, sources say, and beat out suitor A24 based on their unique pitch to market the film.

The pseudo-monster movie stars Hathaway as a hard-partying New Yorker who uses her mind to battle a giant lizard half a world away in Seoul. Dan Stevens and Jason Sudeikis co-star.

Quinn, who was head of acquisition for Magnolia Pictures, was also the Radius executive who acquired and helped champion the horror classic It Follows. League is not only the owner of Alamo Drafthouse, but is also behind all sorts of important things in our pop culture, including the incredible Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. This is an exciting pairing that will be fruitful for us genre fans.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
