Canuxploitation Classic ‘The Pit’ to Receive Limited Theatrical Re-Release!

Last week I talked about Kino Lorber’s October releases which include a Blu-ray release of The Pit scheduled to hit shelves October 18th. Kino Lorber is going one step further and celebrating this brand-new 2k restoration by giving the film a limited theatrical release beginning on September 30th at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta, GA and wrapping up at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, IL on November 12th.

I am very much looking forward to this. I’ve always enjoyed The Pit despite it’s cheesiness and am eager to see it on the big screen. I’ve already circled that Halloween Portland screening on my calendar. What really excites me is that perhaps this is the start of something new from Kino Lorber. The company handles theatrical releases all the time, but to the best of my knowledge they don’t often have limited re-release runs of their cult and horror stuff. Maybe some one-off screenings here and there but I don’t think they’ve done anything like this before. This type of theatrical release is along the lines of what Grindhouse Releasing often does when they’re putting out a new Blu-ray. Here’s to hoping this is the beginning of something Kino Lorber plans to do going forward!

Synopsis:
Jamie wouldn’t kill anyone… unless Teddy told him to! Twelve-year-old Jamie (Sammy Snyders, Tom Sawyer of TV’s Huckleberry Finn and His Friends) is one creepy kid… he has a perverse obsession with sex, his only friend is an evil teddy bear, and he’s the only one who knows about the hole in the forest where he feeds raw meat to a ravenous pack of mutant troglodytes. Jamie will teach everyone a lesson: the kids who teased and bullied him, the mean old lady down the street, even his pretty new babysitter. Soon they – and his entire town – will face the flesh-eating horror of The Pit! The one and only directorial effort by Lew Lehman with a script by documentarian Ian A. Stuart and featuring a wonderful cast that includes Jeannie Elias (Nomads), Sonja Smith (Videodrome) and Richard Alden (The Sadist).
