I wasn’t the biggest fan of Richard Raaphorst’s 2013 period horror film Frankestein’s Army. In fact, I was probably rather harsh in my review. But one thing I did love about the film were the creature designs, which were magnificently realized in practical FX. As I wrote previously, the monstrosities, “…are taken right out of a Silent Hill game and then run through a junkyard, creating some of the most interesting looking villains in recent history.”
That’s why I find myself incredibly intrigued by the promo picture Raaphorst tweeted out for his upcoming project Profundis. It shows a large submarine with massive tentacles at the front of the ship. He explains, “We want to do this as practically as possible!“, which probably means there’s going to be scale models and perspective shots. Otherwise, I don’t see any other option aside from CGI.
What are your thoughts? What do you think Profundis is about? Let us know your theories in the comments!
Update: I'm prepping my workshop to create a promo for my new project, #ProfundisMovie! We want to do this as practically as possible! pic.twitter.com/JFMD9GgHKu
