Just yesterday we reported that the Underworld franchise was interested in bringing Marvel’s Blade into their universe for a crossover cameo. However, according to star Kate Beckinsale, that idea was shut down by Marvel itself, who had other plans. “We had that idea. No. [Marvel is] doing something with ‘Blade’,”” Beckinsale explained at a New York Comic Con panel.
Talks of a new Blade entry have been going on for a while, so it’s no surprise that there are a constant stream of questions and speculations on where the Daywalker might reappear. However, Beckinsale’s comments seemingly don’t have a foundation as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige weighed in on the topic, explaining that there are no current plans for the the Blade series.
Feige told a group of media interviewers at a NYCC event:
They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on ‘AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.
With Wesley Snipes saying earlier this year that he’s on board to reprise the role, it’s merely a matter of time before some kind of decision is made, whether it be to create a fourth movie, to have him appear on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, continue a new storyline with his 16-year-old daughter Fallon Grey, or even flat out reboot the series. Until we hear something concrete, it’s best to assume that nothing official is in the works.
