I could write a paragraph extolling the amazingness that is John Carpenter’s The Thing but I’m not going to because we all already know this. It’s a fact, plain and simple, that it’s one of the greatest horror movies of all time.
So, let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this post, which is a short film that essentially truncates Carpenter’s film into a 5-minute video. Directed by Jimmy Pettigrew, the film stars several children in the film’s roles and embraces its cheap look by using it to its advantage. For example, since you can’t use loads of fire around children without some professional supervision, why not just make cardboard cutouts of flames and use those instead?
Using the actual audio from the original film, Pettigrew’s short is incredibly charming and I love how much fun each of these kids seems to be having!
