Filmmaker Shot an Artsy Werewolf Film During the Supermoon

We need more werewolf movies, don’t you think?

In a world where inspiration is all around us and making films is easier and more affordable than ever, it’s a wonder why anyone is still calling themselves an “aspiring filmmaker.” Literally all you need is a camera – or even a phone, these days – and an idea to make your own film, and if you’re looking for a source of inspiration, maybe all you need to do is look up to the skies.

Brandon Lang, who lives in New York City, did just that on the night of November 14th, using the Supermoon as the inspiration for a short werewolf film that puts an experimental spin on the sub-genre. Running just three-minutes long, A Werewolf in Queens is the personification of no-budget, DIY filmmaking, reminding that we all have the ability to make our own art.

In the short:

The king of monsters battles with himself in Astoria park at the peak of the Supermoon.

We pretty much just walked around with my camera (a7s2) and shot things on the spot with Robert [Lattimore] doing some creepy actions,” Lang wrote on YouTube. “Oh and all the growls in here are him. This was meant to be somewhat experimental, throwing together some footage to try to create something interesting. Couldn’t think of much of a direction to take this so I just recorded myself doing some basic things with my guitar and screwed around with whatever audio I had of him. We own everything in this video except the locations.”

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
