One of my favorite up and coming filmmakers, Mickey Keating, is next going to tackle a sci-fi paranoid thriller called The Faces, which was pre-emtpively acquired by Lionsgate. It would mark his first foray into studio territory after making several impressive independent features. He will write and direct.
Keating is at the top of my list of filmmakers to watch, having directed so many uniquely different genre films from the “Twilight Zone”-esque Pod to the ’70s thriller Carnage Park. He’s also behind the hypnotic black and white Darling, featuring a breakout performance by Lauren Ashley Carter, including the cult horror Ritual. Next up is his surreal fever-dream Psychopaths, which should be arriving next year.
Keating has yet to fail us, and on a studio level with more money I expect him to take things to another level. We’re going to keep a close eye on this project and make sure to keep you all in the mix as news breaks.
David Engel, who exec produces superhero crime show “Powers”, will produce The Faces via Circle of Confusion.
