WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 38 – Merry Christmas / Mrs. Claus

Published

on

Ho Ho Horror show. Welcome to the Christmas edition of WOD – Episode 38!

Director Daniel Pizá Ruiz’s appropriately titled Merry Christmas gives anyone disappointed in their Christmas coal a little taste of comeuppance. Forget milk and cookies, Santa is gonna get his just (and final) desserts when he dashes and blitzens the wrong child’s hopes for the last time. I suspect the filmmaker is creating a statement here about materialism and excess but as you shall see, Christmas is in the eye of the beholder. Season’s Beatings.

‘Tis the season to be disturbing in Director Bo! Cambell’s (yes, the exclamation point is part of his name) twisted sex-change-and-Santa, black comedy bloodbath, Mrs. Claus; a campy, completely deranged effort equal parts torture porn and medical procedural that exists somewhere between the North Pole and a black hole. Mrs. Claus possesses a compelling Thomas Harris meets Eli Roth blueprint, engineered by Ed Gein – ripe with a practical effects package designed by the most juvenile, cotton-head ninny-muggins of elves, but owning an aptly composed score, unnerving lighting, and a horrifying air of Santa-psychosis that will keep your holiday spirits on the edge of sanity. I think the general tone here is uneven, but the film creates a warped energy during its runtime and is assembled with the worksmanship of the most ardent eager toy-builder; its designers were clearly having as much fun as a child on Christmas morning. If you’re the type that always wanted a blow-up sex doll for Christmas, this is probably the shortie for you.
Merry Christmas from your fucked-up friends at WOD.

Anna Faris & Regina Hall Promise ‘Scary Movie’ Will “Offend Everyone;” New Images Revealed

Published

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
