Growing up there were two kind of horror fans: those who bowed to Stephen King, and those who worshipped Dean R. Koontz.
Koontz begun to have his novels adapted in the late ’90s, but several very bad experiences (Phantoms, Hideaway, Mr. Murder, etc.) had him swearing it off forever.
Forever is a decade or so, as his Odd Thomas was adapted a few years ago, but was so terrible I was sure Koontz was done for good.
Huge, huge, HUGE news over at Deadline (who doesn’t seem to understand the gravity of their story), who is reporting that Koontz has signed with New York-based lit boutique Inkwell Management in all areas, and with Brillstein Entertainment Partners for film and television.
Koontz, who has sold over 500 million books in 38 languages, has been without agency representation for several years, so look for him to become more active in having his thriller novels adapted.
Dimension’s 1998 Phantoms, starring Ben Affleck, Peter O’Toole, Rose McGowan, Joanna Going and Liev Schreiber, was way ahead of its time, resulting in an absolute blob of a mess. Could we finally get a version that we deserve?
