Sony Screen Gems’ Patient Zero is apparently never going to infect audiences. Completed in 2015, and after multiple delays, the Stefan Ruzowitzky-directed film was to hit theaters on February 17th. With no press or trailers as of this writing, it’s no surprise that it has been pulled from release. Even worse, there’s no new date. We’ll update you with any news as it comes in.
“An unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies has turned the majority of humankind into highly intelligent, streamlined killers known as ‘The Infected.’ One victim, Morgan (Matt Smith), who is asymptomatic and can communicate with the infected, leads the last survivors on a hunt for Patient Zero and a cure.”
The previously released first image shows Matt Smith (“Doctor Who,” Terminator Genisys) and Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) having a seemingly intense conversation.
This pandemic thriller, which also stars Natalie Dormer (“Game of Thrones”), John Bradley (“Game of Thrones”), and Agyness Deyn (Clash of the Titans), sees humanity battling intelligent, adrenaline-fueled creatures born from a viral superstrain. But please don’t use the Z-word, says the site.
“The great days of zombies are a little bit over. It’s time for something new,” said Ruzowitzky last year, adding that “the infected,” as they’re called, are “much sexier” than the undead. “They have a lot of energy, they’re fast, they’re good-looking. Not those walking vegetables.”
