I just got all giddy watching the brand new trailer for Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, which really hones in on the Vietnam War angle. I thought Warner Bros. had already blown their load – having released dozens of stills, clips, and even various television spots – but alas, they have more up their sleeve! This brand new trailer gives us more evidence that Vogt-Roberts’ King Kong film is absolutely nothing like Godzilla. The moment that sold me is when a helicopter gets grabbed by Kong and pulled right up to his face – it reminded me of Universal Studios’ original “King Kong” attractions that are now a thing of memory (thank God for YouTube).
Kong: Skull Island features Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell, and Eugene Cordero.
In KONG: SKULL ISLAND, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.
The film was scripted by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly.
Skull Island opens in theaters on March 10th, 2017, followed by Godzilla 2, which is being directed by Michael Dougherty, on March 22, 2019, and Godzilla vs. Kong on May 29, 2020.
