Just yesterday we reported that filming is set to begin this coming September on Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez’s adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and the most interesting tidbit of info about the project is that Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, the stars of David Fincher’s 2011 film, will not be reprising the roles of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist.
The studio is said to be launching a global search for a new actress to play Lisbeth… but why? Why not just have Rooney Mara come back? Alvarez has a damn good reason.
He tweeted earlier today:

Sounds like Alvarez wants to bring HIS vision for the story to the screen, and he couldn’t really do that by picking up where Fincher left off. You just can’t argue with that.

Alvarez co-wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu. David Lagercrantz wrote the novel.
David Fincher will executive produce the new film, headed our way on October 5, 2018.
