Antonio Banderas (Once Upon a Time in Mexico, The Expendables 3) and Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission: Impossible III, “The Tudors”) star opposite one another in the psychological thriller Black Butterfly, directed by Brian Goodman (What Doesn’t Kill You). The film is set it hit theaters and On-Demand May 26, 2017.
“In this taut psychological thriller, Paul (Banderas), a down on his luck screenwriter, picks up a drifter (Rhys Meyers) and offers him a place to stay. However, when the deranged stranger takes Paul hostage and forces him to write, their unhinged relationship brings buried secrets to light.”
Even though it channels Stephen King’s “Misery”, the movie is based on the French film “Papillon Noir” written by Hervé Korian. Justin Stanley (“Stigmata”) and Steve Hilts adapted the screenplay for the film.
The trailer is most definitely different than Misery, but in the same vein; it weirdly makes you think that you’ll find out Meyers’ character is all in Banderas’ head (I haven’t read the book, so I have no idea).

Principal photography took place in Italy.
