‘Invader Zim Returns’ in a Television Movie!

Published

PUNY HUMANS! Soon you will all know the taste of DOOM. AGAIN.

EW broke the news that Nickelodeon is reviving Jhonen Vasquez’s seminal societal satire “Invader Zim” as a TV movie!

The series, which debuted on Nick in 2001, followed an alien named Zim who arrived on Earth with imperialistic intentions of conquering the planet (in order to gain favor with his home race). Wildly ineffective but hilariously earnest, Zim and his robot companion GIR attempted to blend in and study the human race while simultaneously trying to enslave it.

Zim dreams of greatness. Unfortunately, though, he’s hopelessly inept as a space invader. Desperate to be rid of the annoying Zim, his planet’s leaders send him on a mission to infiltrate Earth, providing him with leftover, cobbled-together equipment. To their consternation, Zim succeeds in setting up a base on Earth and infiltrating human culture, posing as a human child as he plots the planet’s downfall. Only Zim’s archnemesis, Dib, recognizes that Zim is an alien, and of course, nobody believes Dib’s claims.

Four key original voice cast members — Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Andy Berman (Dib), and Melissa Fahn (Gaz) — will return for the 90-minute movie, which picks up on a “perpetually desperate and delusional” Zim hatching a new plan to achieve his goal, reports the site.

No other details were revealed, but this fun teaser trailer was released to get us hyped.
