‘Encounter’ Approaches a UFO Crash
I’m sick of all of these generic UFO-themed movies that all approach the story from the exact same perspective, which is why Beyond Casual Media’s sci-fi drama Encounter sounds so exciting.
“Westworld” star Luke Hemsworth has come on board as the lead in the film that was inspired the television series “The Twilight Zone.”
Instead of being on the run from extraterrestrials, this one ramps up the communications.
The story will center on a group of friends making a remarkable discovery in a rural field — a crashed spacecraft with a survivor. When they bring the otherworldly being home, they soon discover that it holds even greater secrets than they could imagine. But with the government on their tail, time is running out to ascertain the alien’s true intentions.
The cast includes Anna Hutchison, Tom Atkins, Glenn Keogh, Vincent M. Ward, Cheryl Texiera and Christopher Showerman.
“The world of Encounter is a nod back to classic sci-fi movies of the ’70s and ’80s,” said Salamoff. “Its fresh approach offers a new twist on science fiction’s strengths of exploring very human themes of loss, grief in an unexpected and thought-provoking way.”
Shooting will commence in Georgia starting this August. Paul J. Salamoff will make his feature film debut from his own script, Variety reports.

‘Freddy the 13th’ – Dan Trachtenberg Directing Animated Horror-Comedy Slasher for Paramount
Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers, Predator: Badlands) is headed back into the world of animation for horror-comedy Freddy the 13th for Paramount Animation.
The animated feature will adapt the graphic novel from Yehudi Mercado.
Freddy the 13th essentially imagines a world where Uncle Buck becomes Jason Voorhees.
Deadline details the upcoming animated film as follows: “A family vacation turns into a nightmare when fun Uncle Freddy accidentally kills the Boogeyman and takes on his powers.”
The official synopsis for the comic book from creator Yehudi Mercado further details, “Uncle Buck becomes the Boogey Man. When a horror-obsessed, unlucky schlub accidentally kills the legendary slasher Nighty Night, he inherits the mantle of the monster—right as he’s stuck babysitting his niece and nephew for thirteen nights of terror. Now, as rival killers crawl out of the shadows to seize the throne, Freddy must drive cross-country to break the curse, protect his family… and prove he’s finally good at something, even if it’s being evil.”
Deadline notes that Dan Trachtenberg’s movie adaptation is untitled at this time. But the family-friendly horror-comedy aims to deliver “scares and laughs to the whole family.”
Dan Trachtenberg writes on Instagram, “I’ve spent most of my career making movies that parents probably shouldn’t show their kids. I’m finally making one…they…can…?”
Stay tuned for more on Dan Trachtenberg’s Freddy the 13th as we learn it.
