It’s never easy seeing one of your favorite character actors passing away, but with a sad heart, we have to report that we’ve lost Powers Boothe at the age of 68. The Wrap reported that the actor died in his sleep of natural causes.

Even though he’s had an illustrious career outside of the genre, we will best remember him from his role as Senator Roark in Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City, as well as FBI Agent Wesley Doyle in the late Bill Paxton’s 2001 psychological horror/thriller Frailty.

Outside of recurring roles in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “24”, he was also seen in Stalingrad, Tombstone, Red Dawn, and even The Avengers.

In 1980, Boothe earned his only Emmy Award for his portrayal of cult leader Jim Jones in the mini-series Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, noted CoS. He twice received Screen Actors Guild nominations for his work in an ensemble; the first came in 1995 for Nixon and the second in 2007 for “Deadwood”.

Horror movie fanatic who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001. Producer on Southbound, V/H/S/2/3/94, SiREN, Under the Bed, and A Horrible Way to Die. Chicago-based. Horror, pizza and basketball connoisseur. Taco Bell daily. Franchise favs: Hellraiser, Child's Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream and Friday the 13th. Horror 365 days a year.
