Steven Spielberg’s 1995 “Dig” is one of my favorite games. The point-and-click was the story of astronauts transported to an alien planet where they must explore ancient ruins for clues on a way to return home. Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner are behind the book “Unearthed” (releasing in 2018), which sounds similar to the classic game.
“Set in a distant future where Earth has been undone by environmental disaster, “Unearthed” sees a scholar and a scavenger reluctantly team up to venture to the planet of a now-extinct alien race. With the promise of a salve for Earth, the two must work together to explore an ancient alien temple and finds its life-altering secrets. But the deeper they go, the more the two discover they may not be helping Earth, but rather hastening its destruction.”
Columbia Pictures has picked up the rights to “Unearthed” and has Edge of Tomorrow 2‘s Doug Liman attached to direct, Variety reports. Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are penning the script. Watch for more news as it comes.
