The Toronto International Film Festival just made their first announcement, and while the Midnight Madness selections are forthcoming this first wave includes several genre films we’re dying to see.
Timed for the theatrical release (Sep. 15) is Darren Aronofsky‘s psychological horror film in the vein of Black Swan. Titled mother!, the all-star cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domnhall Gleeson, Ed Harris and Kristen Wiig.
“A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.“

Guillermo del Toro‘s The Creature From the Black Lagoon-esque The Shape of Water isn’t opening in theaters until December but will premiere at the TIFF.
“In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.”

Lastly, a surprise announcement is Haifaa Al Mansour‘s Mary Shelley.
Elle Fanning stars in this scintillating biopic of the Frankenstein author, chronicling her tempestuous marriage to dissolute poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and the fateful night at a Swiss chateau that inspired her most famous creation.
Watch for tons more in the coming weeks.
