Chilling New ‘Cold Skin’ Imagery Highlights Sitges Premiere!
Xavier Gens (The Divide, Frontiere(s), The Crucifixion) will see his adaptation of Albert Sanchez Piñol’s Spanish novel Cold Skin premiere at the upcoming Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Bloody Disgusting learned.
As previously reported, the film is a Lovecraftian tale of isolation and madness that has been in the works since 2009 when 30 Days of Night director David Slade was developing from a script by Alex and David Pastor (Carriers). At some point, that creative teamed turned over and Gens ended up shooting the film from a script by 28 Weeks Later scribe Jesús Olmo.
Cold Skin takes place on the edge of the Antartic Circle, in the years after World War I, a steam ship approaches a desolate island far from all shipping lanes. On board is a young man, on his way to assume the lonely post of weather observer, to live in solitude for a year at the end of the world. But on shore, he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. The rest is forest, a deserted cabin, rocks, silence, and the surrounding sea. And then the night begins to fall…
It stars Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Big Game) and David Oakes (The Borgias, The White Queen) along with Spain’s double-Goya nominee Aura Garrido.

Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
