Evil Trends on the ‘Friend Request’ Poster
When a college student unfriends a mysterious girl online, she finds herself fighting a demonic presence that wants to make her lonely by killing her closest friends…
Hailing out of Germany is the supernatural thriller Friend Request, which Freestyle Media’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures will now release in theaters on September 22, 2017, almost a year later than originally planned.
Directed by Simon Verhoeven, “Popular college student Laura (Alycia Debnam-Carey) has tons of friends, both on Facebook and IRL. She graciously accepts social outcast Marina’s (Liesl Ahlers) online friend request, until Marina crosses the line and Laura unfriends her. To everyone’s shock, Marina takes her own life in a ritual meant to torment Laura, which appears in a video posted on Laura’s profile. Even though it wasn’t Laura who posted the video, or other creepy content that begins appearing on her page, her Facebook friend count begins to dwindle as a result. When her real-life friends start dying mysterious, cruel deaths, Laura must figure out how to break the deadly curse before it’s too late.”
Alycia Debnam-Carey, Brit Morgan, and William Moseley all star.

‘Obsession’ Makes Streaming Debut on Peacock in One Week
Curry Barker’s Obsession is still playing in theaters and it’s now available on Digital at home, with the physical release set for next week. Also next week? The film’s streaming debut!
Peacock has made the surprising announcement that box office sensation Obsession will already be available for streaming on Peacock beginning next Friday, July 17, 2026.
Obsession was released into theaters just about two months ago and the film has scared up an incredible $406.8 million at the worldwide box office. It’s the highest grossing horror movie of the year so far, and it’s still raking in millions with each passing week.
The production budget for the independently-made Obsession was a reported $750,000, with distributor Focus Features later acquiring the film for a reported $15 million. Needless to say, the film has proven to be massively profitable for Focus, who will no doubt be hungry to turn the horror hit into a horror franchise. Curry Barker has some thoughts on that, however.
Curry Barker is incredibly busy in the wake of Obsession‘s box office success, with his horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts coming soon. He’s also attached to direct the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as another original horror movie for Universal & Blumhouse.
Stream Obsession on Peacock at home beginning July 17!
In Curry Barker’s theatrical debut Obsession, after breaking the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.
Inde Navarrette (“Superman & Lois”) and Michael Johnston (“Teen Wolf”) star.
