When Ed Skrein learned that the character he had been cast to play in Neil Marshall’s forthcoming Hellboy was originally a character of mixed Asian heritage, he immediately left the film in the hopes that an Asian American actor would be cast in the role instead.
Good on Skrein and the whole team, as THR reports today that Daniel Dae Kim is now in negotiations to play Major Ben Daimio in Lionsgate and Millenium’s reboot.
“A formerly dead United States Marine, Ben Daimio suffers from a curse that transforms him into a horrific jaguar-like creature.”
The cast also includes David Harbour as Hellboy; Milla Jovovich as Nimue, the film’s villain; Ian McShane as Professor Broom; Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida; and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan.
The new story sees the hero squaring off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind.
Aron Coleite is working on the latest draft of a script by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson are the producers. Hellboy is being executive produced by Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman, and Carl Hampe.
Look for the new film in 2018.
