Jeff Goldblum Has Small, But Significant Role in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

The best character in the Jurassic Park films is Dr. Ian Malcolm, the coolest dude to ever survive a dinosaur attack. Jeff Goldblum portrayed the Malcolm, a know-it-all mathematician who came to Jurassic Park as an insurance consultant. When he wasn’t wooing Ellie (Laura Dern) with his knowledge bombs, he was dropping some of the film’s most memorable lines, including, “Life finds a way.” Malcolm survived both trips to Jurassic Park and it looks like he’s being brought back for one last hurrah. Only, this time it’s a small role.

Asked on Empire’s podcast about his role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Goldblum explained:

“It’s small… who knows, they may cut me out entirely! But if I stay in I’ll be a sprig of parsley or a little garnish, hopefully with some impact!”

Yes, it’s a small role, but he’s teasing its huge impact. My own hope is that he’s being worked into the third film of the new trilogy.

J. A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) is directing the next installment in the studio’s hit franchise. Jurassic World earned $1.67 billion worldwide in 2015 and is the fourth-highest-grossing film in history.

Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are returning for the sequel, which also stars Justice Smith, James Cromwell and Toby Jones. Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, wrote the script for the sequel with Derek Connolly.

Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again join executive producers Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow in the next chapter of the franchise. Belén Atienza is also producing. Vice president of production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of the studio.

Horror movie fanatic who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001. Producer on Southbound, V/H/S/2/3/94, SiREN, Under the Bed, and A Horrible Way to Die. Chicago-based. Horror, pizza and basketball connoisseur. Taco Bell daily. Franchise favs: Hellraiser, Child's Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream and Friday the 13th. Horror 365 days a year.
