Unsurprisingly, The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films’ Polaroid has been pulled from its planned Thanksgiving weekend release. As Deadline notes, on Oct. 4, the day before the New York Times broke its expose on Harvey Weinstein’s history with sexual harassment, the studio dated the Lars Klevberg-directed horror film for Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 22. It will now target an undisclosed 2018 date after alleged rebranding.
The site also noticed last night at the Sherman Oaks Arclight Theatre that the one-sheets for Polaroid were already hanging around the lobby. They also hear other in-theater promotions for Polaroid were already out there across the country.
Polaroid stars Kathryn Prescott (The Hive), Mitch Pileggi (“The X-Files”), Grace Zabriskie (The Grudge), Tyler Young (Eyewitness), Keenan Tracey (“Bates Motel”), Samantha Logan (The Fosters), Priscilla Quintana (Stranded), Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”) and Javier Botet (Mama).
High school loner Bird Fitcher (Prescott) has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end.
The film is produced by Roy Lee (The Ring, Blair Witch) and Chris Bender (The Ring, The History of Violence). Written by Blair Butler, it’s based on the short by Lars Klevberg.
