One of the biggest omissions from the newly released Cult of Chucky is that of Glen/Glenda, the “seed” of Chucky who was birthed by Tiffany in the final moments of Bride of Chucky. The character, one that many fans have yet to embrace, juxtaposes beautifully as he’s as equally sweet as she’s a vicious psychopath.
Child’s Play creator and Cult director Don Mancini threw a massive red herring into the new film, having a character (Michael, played by Adam Hurtig) with multiple personalities who we all were sure would be revealed as Glen. In fact, I was expecting the woman in the opening scene opposite Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) to be revealed as Glenda. Neither proved to be true and neither Glen nor Glenda made an appearance. Still, Mancini hasn’t written the character off just yet.
Toy company Mezco interviewed Mancini and asked about Billy Boyd returning as the voice of Glen/Glenda. Here’s his response:
“All I can say is… STAY TUNED!”
When further asked about the future of the Child’s Play series, he added: “Expect the unexpected. Though not as unexpected as, say, Chucky not being in the movie. I’d say you could expect that.”
Cult of Chucky took a box of dynamite to the rules and blew the mythology wide open. There’s literally nowhere the Child’s Play franchise couldn’t go and Mancini has shown that he’ll do just about anything going forward. As exciting as that sounds, just give me Glen and Glenda…
