Universal Pictures recently dated director Jeff Wadlow’s Truth or Dare for release on April 27, 2018.

It was originally reported that the film centers on a college student in Mexico who is conned into playing a supernatural version of Truth or Dare. The game doesn’t stop and follows her and her friends back home. Even with those details, we never knew the rules of the actual game, which are revealed in this brand new synopsis:

A harmless game of “Truth or Dare” among friends turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare.

Tyler Posey (“Teen Wolf”), Violett Beane (“The Flash”), Lucy Hale (Scream 4), Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto, and Sophia Taylor Ali, and Aurora Perrineau (Freaks of Nature) star in the latest supernatural horror film from Blumhouse Productions.

Wadlow co-wrote the script with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs from a story by Michael Reisz, Wadlow, Roach and Jacobs. Micro-budget maven Jason Blum is producing with Wadlow, Roach and Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson serving as exec producers.

Wadlow is the writer behind A&E’s “Bates Motel” and the writer-director of Kick Ass 2.

You may end up rethinking karaoke nights with your friends after you watch the upcoming horror-comedy Bad Karaoke, set to World Premiere on Sunday, August 30 as part of Tubi FrightFest in London. You can preview the film with the official trailer below.

Robert J. Steinmiller Jr. and Chris Lightbody directed Bad Karaoke.

In the film, “When wedding band keyboardist Emily discovers an old karaoke machine in the back of a dive bar, she thinks it will lead to a fun-filled night of singing and bonding with her bandmates. Unfortunately, this karaoke machine seems to have a thirst for blood.”

“When the singing begins, so does the bloodshed.”

“When an excellent performance allows someone to be spared by the machine, the crew think they’ve figured out how to finally beat it. Proven almost immediately wrong, it takes more horrifying deaths and a visit from a mysterious stranger to realize they may have a chance at survival after all.”

Lexi Underwood (“Cruel Summer”), Case Walker (Monster High: The Movie), and Kat Cunning (Purple Hearts) star in the upcoming horror-comedy Bad Karaoke.

Chris Lightbody and Spencer Yaras wrote the screenplay.

“We were inspired to make this film after years of painful karaoke performances nearly put us in an early grave,” the directors said in a statement. “We found that many people have had near-death karaoke experiences and we wanted to play with that idea, as well as say something profound about the state of new music. But instead, we made Bad Karaoke.”
