Selma Blair Says Her Heart is Broken Over ‘Hellboy’ Reboot

For most fans of Hellboy, it’s hard to know how to feel about director Neil Marshall’s upcoming reboot. On the one hand, the idea of “Stranger Things” star David Harbour in the title role is an exciting one. On the other hand, it’s a total bummer that we’ll never see the second sequel that Guillermo del Toro so badly wanted to make.

Del Toro’s films of course starred Selma Blair as Liz Sherman, with the character revealing at the end of the second film that she was pregnant with Hellboy’s twins. We’ll never know where that storyline was headed, and Blair herself is bummed about that.

God, you know, people are fans of Hellboy and also fans of Guillermo. So part of us, the ones that were so loyal to Guillermo, our hearts are broken that it didn’t work out with the greatest third installment ever written that I wish I could play more than anything in the world,” Blair just told Cinema Blend. “But I truly hope that Mike Mignola has his vision out there for the darker Hellboy come to light, and I’m sure he will, and David Harbour is excellent and everyone involved.

Blair added, “but no my heart is broken.”

Milla Jovovich stars in the new film as the Blood Queen, with Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim and Penelope Mitchell. Also starring are Sophie Okonedo (After Earth), Brian Gleeson (mother!) and Alistair Petrie (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

The plot follows the hero and his ragtag team of paranormal researchers who are trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.

Look for the return of Hellboy on January 11, 2019.
