Rumor Circulating That Third ‘Cloverfield’ Film Will Be a Netflix Release

Published

on

We’re now three months away from the release of director Julius Onah’s installment in the Cloverfield Cinematic Universe, which had previously been titled God Particle. The outer space-set film doesn’t yet have a new title, nor have we seen a trailer or really anything substantial, but the mystery box-style viral marketing did recently begin.

The rumored title is Cloverfield Station, and another new rumor has popped up this week. Reliable entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider took to Twitter last night to issue a very interesting tweet from the floor of Sundance. This year’s Cloverfield film, Sneider allegedly overheard, will be heading straight to Netflix?!

Overheard on the ground at Sundance: New Cloverfield movie may be heading to Netflix,” Sneider tweeted. “No confirmation yet and I’m heading into a movie. Just passing along, since the delays HAVE been suspicious…

The next Cloverfield film has indeed been pushed back a couple times now, most recently from February to April, so it’s entirely possible that *something* unusual is going on behind the scenes. It’s also worth noting that the movie’s April 20 release puts it up against the mega-budget, Dwayne Johnson-starring Rampage at the box office; it would be a smarter move to compete with the movie from home.

Additionally, Paramount’s Annihilation will be hitting Netflix overseas shortly after the US theatrical release next month, as a unique deal was struck between Paramount and the streaming service. We bring this up because it shows that the two companies *are* in bed together, so to speak, testing out groundbreaking new release strategies.

We’ll update you on this one as we learn more.

In the new film…

A team of astronauts make a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival.

It stars John Ortiz, David Oyelowo (SelmaInterstellar), Elizabeth Debicki (The Night ManagerThe Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (ConcussionBeyond the Lights), Chris O’Dowd (The IT CrowdMoone BoyThor: The Dark World), Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil WarRush).

Little Mermaid horror

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
