Oh yeah, now we’re excited.
Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim Uprising gets a brand spankin’ new trailer this morning, and it’s far superior to anything we’ve seen from the film thus far. Not only does it help establish the character of John Boyega’s Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film, but it’s also loaded with monsters and epic fight sequences.
Maybe coolest of all is the insight into what the world looks like *before* the Kaiju come back. As you can see in the above photo, which may already be the film’s “one perfect shot,” the world looks to be a dystopian wasteland of sorts in the wake of the events of the first film, with massive Kaiju bones littering an otherwise peaceful landscape. Too cool.
And then the Kaiju show up once more, intent on finishing off what they started. Thankfully, we have John Boyega on our side. And big ass robots designed for one purpose and one purpose only: kicking monster ass and canceling that goddamn apocalypse.
New pilots. New Jaegers. New monsters. The Uprising begins March 23!
